Glo and University of Ilorin have entered into a partnership to build a platform where students can access their lectures and reach out to their lecturers over the internet from anywhere in the world. The deal which was reached after principal officers led by the Vice Chancellor visited Glo’s corporate headquarters.

The offering from Globacom would include an e-Learning Suite capable of holding all the faculty curriculums, lecture notes and cache them for access via desktop and mobile devices for up to five years. The e-Learning suite would be available both over the school’s intranet and the internet.

In addition to the e-Learning Suite, Glo would also offer video streaming, local intranet and extranet, web based learning and teleconferencing facilities.

Glo also offered to provide the University with internal communication solutions including a Closed User Group, fixed wireless connections and PABX connections and Bucket Data services for the whole community.

University of Ilorin would be the second university in Nigeria that I know of that would be getting such Infrastructure, the first being Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria which had it’s own funded by the MacAurthur foundation with MEED (a cisco partner) as the technical partner, that helped build its 10Gbit, 30Km fibre optic network with support for CISCO’s boarder-less technology across its three campuses. Interestingly, Glo also partnered to provide internet on the project, with ABU getting a dedicated 155Mbps Glo-1 connection.
